St. Mary's Church (protestant)
The church was built from1170 to 1200 as a three-bay vaulted basilica with three knaves. It originally had two towers, but one of them was considered unsafe in 1805 and dismantled. The church was destroyed during the 2nd World War but recon-struction started immediately after the war and was finished in 1959. St. Mary's Altar (1420) designed by the Dortmund master painter Conrad von Soest is not only one of the most beautiful paintings of the Middle Ages but also the focal point in this Romanesque church. The Berswordt Altar (1385), named after the donors, the Berswordt family, is also worth seeing.
