The "Hansa" Coking Plant
Built from 1927 to1928 this cokery was the focal point for Dortmund's coal and steel industry. Nearly 1,000 people used to work in this plant which was closed in 1992. Nowadays the "Nature and Technology" trail zigzags across the impressive area, and the technical installations and buildings still look as if the last worker has only just left. But nature is reclaiming its territory, covering up these silent witnesses to Dortmund's history. A visit of the "Hansa" Coking Plant is only possible with a guided tour.
