![]() show Panorama-ViewThe Port and Port Authority Building Immediately after the completion of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the Port of Dortmund was officially opened by Emperor Wilhelm II. in 1899. Today the largest canal port in Europe is not only an important distribution centre for mass goods but also the starting point for many excursions. The Port Authority Building, which is also a popular stop for photographers, shows the history of the port, a functioning model of the port on a scale of 1:500, and a Captain's bridge. Maps and models from maritime, coastal and inland navigation give this exhibition the flair of maritime life with cranes, containers, seagulls and shanties.
